Africa Here We Come!

That’s it! We’ve booked our East African Safari, we have our visas and shots, just gathering up all the gear, and learning our birds and animals. Subscribe here, or Facebook, or YouTube to be notified when we get home and post about our adventure.

We fly through Amsterdam to Nairobi, Kenya. There we will spend two nights at the Hilton Kwetu. We will meet up with some coworkers of mine, whom I have only met remotely. Then on to Arusha in Tanzania.

We have a private guide/car from Arusha to Serengeti. We stay at A&K Sanctuary Swala, Ngorongoro, and Kichakani for two, two, and three nights respectively. In this first part of the trip, we will do game drives in Manyara Lake, Tarangire, Ngorongoro national parks, visit Olduwai Gorge, and then on to Serengeti National Park. While in the Serengeti we’ll do a hot air balloon one morning.

We then fly to Laba Jongmero camp and will spend four nights there exploring Ruaha national park with the guides from the camp. From there another flight takes us to Laba Siwidu camp in Nyerere national park, where we will stay for another four nights. This camp is on a river, so our exploration will include boats (not canoes…).

Another flight takes us to Dar es Saalam, and our international flight through Amsterdam again.

All the accommodations are “luxury tents”, with all services included. The camps are small with 8-10 tents, no fences, and Maasai warriors patrolling to help the animals remember to stay out of our tents. We are likely to be up at dawn every day for a game drive in the morning, and another game drive near the end of the day.

A few representative images for flavor…
